In a completely different direction, let’s watch Red Cliff (2008) again. It gets confusing in that, the US release is condensed. Thankfully, we have the full Asian version, which was released in 2 parts. We however get to watch it in 4 parts which likely runs over 4 hours lol. Anyway, it was directed by John Woo, and is without question the best samurai movie I have ever seen. With that, let’s get to it!

“In 208 A.D., in the final days of the Han Dynasty, shrewd Prime Minster Cao Cao convinced the fickle Emperor Han the only way to unite all of China was to declare war on the kingdoms of Xu in the west and East Wu in the south. Thus began a military campaign of unprecedented scale, led by the Prime Minister, himself. Left with no other hope for survival, the kingdoms of Xu and East Wu formed an unlikely alliance. Numerous battles of strength and wit ensued, both on land and on water, eventually culminating in the battle of Red Cliff.” Wow, yeah, so, lot going on indeed!

Subtitles, so we have to pay attention. The cast is fantastic especially Takeshi Kaneshiro as master strategist Zhuge Liang.

Given how much ground we have to cover I might not say a whole lot but needless to say the situation is grim. When isn’t it? Otherwise we wouldn’t have a movie! Lots of fantastic action, beyond impossible odds, and some incredible scenery. LET’S ROCK!!!

Oh, and did I mention, lot going on? Thankfully for the good guy cause, it’s an age of heroes and incredibly powerful🙂

Intense, driving music, love it!

Heroes aren’t born, they’re made, in the moment of self-sacrifice, when they place the well-being of others before themselves. Incredibly powerful.

Yeah! Kick their @$$es!!

It’s epic, with incredible sets & a LOT going on🙂

Very powerful🙂

There’s a LOT of great things, about friendship, honor, sacrifice, and fighting for those who cannot defend themselves. Great stuff!

It’s also about faith, in yourself and your friends🙂

Okay, close to 4 hours in, the big thingamathing approaches, LET’S ROCK!!!

Enemy models approaching, enemy models!! Lol just kidding, ships teehee

Outnumbered 10 to 1, what do you do, sit back and wait for them to destroy you, or teehee

It’s highly evocative and filled with powerful themes🙂

I would however be remiss if I did not mention Wei Zhao who plays Sun Shangxiang, the President of the local Girl Power Association who is simply fantastic. The entire cast is fantastic, but, she leads her own Girl Power Team, who fight and serve with distinction🙂

It’s all about superior tactics, training, and motivation. It also helps to be a good guy too🙂

On top of all of that, the stunts and special effects are first rate🙂

Awwwww…. It’s interesting, how the fate of such a, I won’t use the term minor character, but, it’s amazing how what happens to someone we saw so little of can be so powerful. That’s great story telling!

Epic, simply epic! 4.8/5 and highly recommended🙂
